In furtherance of the University’s commitment towards bridging the gap between town and gown, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 received in audience the Executive Chairman of Bosso Local
Government Area of Niger State, Arc. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna at the Senate Chamber.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Bala expressed appreciation to the Chairman for leading the delegation to the University and congratulated the Chairman on his victory at the polls.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Chairman for providing purposeful leadership and for changing the narrative of local government administration in the State since assumption of office. He attributed the impressive performance of the Chairman to the fact that he is an alumnus of the University.
Prof. Bala disclosed that the University has concluded arrangements to commence extra-mural lesson for secondary school students within the Bosso community through the use of undergraduate students and some staff of the University as well as to organize ICT training for them on how to use the Computer-based test system for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
On the entrepreneurship training, the VC assured the delegation that the University would assist the community in organizing training for the youth through the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Directorate of Employment.
He solicited for the support of the Local Government Chairman and the Royal fathers in the area of security since majority of the University’s students lives within the host community while disclosing that the University is working towards building a permanent Police Post and Clinic for the host community. He assured the delegation of support and cooperation.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman said the purpose of the visit was to familiarize with the University Management as well as to consolidate on the existing relationship between the University and the Bosso community.
Arc. Hon. Gomna also solicited the University’s support in the areas of entrepreneurial and ICT training, admission and employment considerations for the teeming youth of the Local Government Area and other areas which would allow the good people of Bosso community to tap from the University’s expertise.
“Beyond the certificate kind of education, we are also interested in skills acquisition programme for our youth so that we can get them off the streets and make them useful to themselves, families and the society at large. On our part as Local Government, we are ready to provide starter packs while the University will provide the training,” the Chairman disclosed.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor for the massive construction work going in the Campus and further pleaded that the University should extend its medical services to the host community as part of its corporate social responsibility.
